Simplify (3x2 - 2) + (5x2 + 5x - 1). 8x^2 + 5x - 3 8x^2 + 5x - 1 2x^2 + 5x - 3 8x^2 + 7x - 1 Not really sure how to solve this? :/

LOL are we not allowed to give direct answers? I would like to know how to work the problem out :<

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

when adding, the parenthesis are not needed. However, when subtracting, they are needed. So your problem is : 3x^2 - 2 + 5x^2 + 5x - 1 now we just combine like terms 3x^2 + 5x^2 = 8x^2 5x -- this has no other like term...but do not forget about it -2-1 = -3 now put it all together 8x^2 + 5x - 3 understand ?

Yes thank you! You made it so simple to understand, almost better than my math book! Medal for you :)

thx...glad I could help :)
