Why do a car's tires need more air in the winter than they do in the summer? The temperature is lower, so the tires expand. The temperature is lower, so the air inside the tires expands. The temperature is lower, so the air inside the tires contracts. The temperature is lower, so the tires contract.

Just puzzled is all

The molecules don't expand or contract with temperature. At higher temperature they move faster, hit the walls more often, and bounce harder when they do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the tires must expand correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

always remind ur self that HEAT EXPANDS,AND COLD SHRINKS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok...so the tires contract?
