Find three consecutive even integers so that the sum of the three numbers is 4 more than twice the third.

OpenStudy (kainui):

I'll give you a hint. If n is an even integer then n+2 is the next even integer. So n+(n+2) is the sum of two consecutive even integers as an example.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 3n +2 is the sum of three consecutive even integers?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Nope, almost. For instance, 4,6, and 8 are consecutive even numbers right? So we can say n=4, n+2=6 and n+4=8 if that helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks :)

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

Just figure out the expression for the three consecutive even integers and you are good to go.
