I'll Medal ! i have tried and tried and i can't get it right. -__- A scientist measures the angle x and the distance y between the Earth and the Sun. Using complete sentences, explain how the scientist can use only these two measurements to calculate the distance between the Sun and the shooting star.

OpenStudy (lilcathyx):

Directrix (directrix):

The scientist can use right triangle trigonometry to get the distance AC from the shooting star to the sun. Using the cosine function, the scientist writes: cos(x) = y/AC where x is the known angle, y is the known distance from Sun to Earth. The scientist puts those values in for y and x and then solves for AC to get the Sun to Shooting Star distance.

OpenStudy (lilcathyx):

Ohhhhhhhhhhh i see what you mean.

Directrix (directrix):

Okay.

OpenStudy (lilcathyx):

Thankk youu very muchhh ! @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):
