log3 2 + 2 log3 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\log_3(2)+2\log_3(2)\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you supposed to do with it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can write it as a single log as \[\log_3(2)+2\log_3(2)=\log_3(2)+\log_3(4)=\log_3(2\times 4)=\log_3(8)\] but that does not tell you what the number is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want to get an actual number out of this, a decimal approximation, then use the change of base formula and get \[\log_3(8)=\frac{\ln(8)}{\ln(3)}\] and a calculator

Nnesha (nnesha):

remember this rules to expand or condense logarithms first you have to use "power rule" which is \[\huge\rm x \log y = \log y^x\] number or variable which is at front of log becomes exponent of y product rule \[\huge\rm log a + \log b = \log (a \times b)\] if there is plus change that to multiplication ( multiplication --- addition )
