Below is a diagram of an airport runway intersection. There are two parallel runways, and a taxiway crosses both runways. If /_8 measures 115, what is the sum of /_1 and /_4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A ) 230 B ) 115 C ) 65 D ) 130

OpenStudy (adi3):

where is the diagram

OpenStudy (adi3):

@adorablefourfootnine

OpenStudy (adi3):

quick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok one sec

OpenStudy (adi3):

one sec is over

OpenStudy (adi3):

its 2 minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you can't help me and you got stuff to do that's fine ..

OpenStudy (adi3):

no I was just joking sorry if u felt bad

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh okay I didn't know, but here's the caption

OpenStudy (adi3):

so its said 8 = 150

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no 115 but i don't know the measure for angle 1 and 4

OpenStudy (adi3):

/_8 wht is this is it only 8 or something else

OpenStudy (adi3):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (adi3):

@adorablefourfootnine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm I'm not sure ? all i know is that its asking what is the sum of angles 1 and 4

OpenStudy (adi3):

before that u gonna know this /_8

OpenStudy (adi3):

bc i dont understand wht is this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand your question :/

OpenStudy (adi3):

wht is this /_8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh! it's a symbol for angle 8

OpenStudy (adi3):

@amorfide do hve any idea okay

OpenStudy (adi3):

@AnswerMyQuestions

OpenStudy (adi3):

okay i get it

OpenStudy (adi3):

its angle 8 measures 115

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct

OpenStudy (adi3):

I think angle 5 should also measure 155 because oposite angle

OpenStudy (adi3):

angle 8 = angle 5

OpenStudy (adi3):

not sure

OpenStudy (adi3):

quick i cant wait i suck in keeping patience

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know either... do you know someone who can help me?

OpenStudy (adi3):

@AnswerMyQuestions

OpenStudy (amorfide):

isn't angle 1 same as angle 8

OpenStudy (amorfide):

idk how to work out angle 4

OpenStudy (adi3):

i think angle 8 is same as angle 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand this...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but it's opposite angles though

OpenStudy (adi3):

@AnswerMyQuestions read everything

OpenStudy (amorfide):

that is also true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember doing traversals, but never exactly understood them...

OpenStudy (adi3):

opposite angles r equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*transversals

OpenStudy (adi3):

if angle 8 = angle 5 = angle 4

OpenStudy (adi3):

angle 4 = 115

OpenStudy (amorfide):

I believe angle 4 is angle 8 and angle 1 is angle 4 so 115+115 since opposite angles

OpenStudy (amorfide):

might be wrong though

OpenStudy (adi3):

@amorfide how is it same they are way diferent

OpenStudy (amorfide):

@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is that possible though? i don't understand

OpenStudy (adi3):

I think angle 8 = andle 5 = angle 4

OpenStudy (amorfide):

actually let's do this

OpenStudy (amorfide):

so if you draw a line from angle 8 to form a straight line you get 180-115 is the angle on the outside so you get 65 which i think makes angle 6 65 since 6 and 4 are in a parallelogram you get 65+65=130 so angle 4 is 360-130 then divide by 2 to get 115 so angle 4 is 115 angle 1 is 115 so 115+115=230

OpenStudy (amorfide):

therefore the sum is 230

OpenStudy (amorfide):

or you can say that since the bottom left quadrant is equal to top right quadrant you can put angle 8 and angle 1 opposite to each other opposite angle states angle 1 is angle 8 so angle 1= 115 next you can say that the sahpe angle 1 is in matches the shape of the quadrant and has the same angle for the angle the dotted line forms therefore the opposite angle would be angle 4 since we know angle 1 is 115 then angle 4 is also 115 therefore the sum of angle 1 and angle 4 are 115+115 = 230

OpenStudy (amorfide):

since you have |dw:1425987149137:dw|

OpenStudy (amorfide):

then |dw:1425987165706:dw| these angles are equal

OpenStudy (amorfide):

so 1=4 and 1=8 therefore they are the same angle

OpenStudy (adi3):

yup, @adorablefourfootnine can you please medal me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much @amorfide for the help , and sure @Adi3 is it possible to medal more than one person?

OpenStudy (amorfide):

You are welcome, if it doesn't make sense I could probably draw it step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1425987167731:dw| 8 = 5 (vertically opposite angles) 5 = 1 (corresponding angles) so, angle 1 = 115 also, 8 = 4 = 115(corresponding angles) 1+ 4 = 115+115 = 230

OpenStudy (amorfide):

yeah akita explained it better

OpenStudy (adi3):

yes

OpenStudy (adi3):

no

OpenStudy (adi3):

sorry u already medaled him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know how to do that though @Adi3

OpenStudy (adi3):

u cant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i wanted to do both , you said its possible , so how do i do that

OpenStudy (adi3):

i thought u dint medal anyone

OpenStudy (adi3):

but all the credit goes to @amorfide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dang :/
