Hello, guys. I'm programming in C language on linux. I locked my user account by mistake and can't access the root, neither can i change the accounts status because it can't unlock itself..if you have any idea of what i can do, please kindly leave a message. THANKS!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What distribution is it? and why can't you access root? did you forget root password?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can try to login in a single user mode and reset root password or unlock your accout.

UBUNTU 12.04 LTS @pitamar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand. Can u be more specifique, please? @Angelus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First of all, why can't you log in as root? that would be simplest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was tryna change my passwd, using "passwd". But, not knowing how to implement it, I read the manual page, and saw "passwd -l", i didn't read caredfully enough and just typed it. I thought it had no effects, buh now I see the result.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, but you are talking about your user password, right? what about root?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yh..it's the same. i need to be able to log into my user account before i can log in as root...i can't even activate the session because the account is locked.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can log in directly to root. When you're in the login screen press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to open the (first) console, and then login as root and do `passwd -u username`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just tried that. But, the very first input it needs is my user account name, and that's the 1 i blocked. Unless u can hsow me step by step how to go about this..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And what happens if you type `root` instead of your username? Doesn't it let you log in? If not then you can use single user mode as suggested above: http://askubuntu.com/questions/132965/how-do-i-boot-into-single-user-mode-from-grub

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thanks. i'll try that. @pitamar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In order to login as root you have to know the root password, but it shouldn't be a problem if you do Good luck =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks. Same here.
