Graph the equation y=2|x| Just want to know what to do first. I can take it from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@alyssa_xo

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

easy pick two random "x well... three with 0 so set x = 0 and pick other 2 values for it one less than 0 and other more than 0 to get the "y", and graph away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This function will always output a positive value, with a slope that always has a magnitude of 2. Pick a few x coordinates to see what the graph will look like. What will y be when x is negative? Positive? zero?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y will be negative too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because 2 is positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2|0|=0 (0,0) 2|3|=6 (3,6) and 2|-3|=-6 (-3,-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then graph? right? and then I'm done?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

welll 2| -3 | absolute value of -3 is not really -3, sooo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

|-a|=|a|=+a

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

the absolute value represents the magnitude of the number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o.o use less math words lol

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the absolute value of anything, is always positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what i thought so, the absolute value of -3 is just 3?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

| -1,12,133,459 | => 1,12,133,459

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait so what wou

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the y value be of that then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this supposed to be a V not a \

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you! I understand now.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
