Vinyl is the common name for a specific carbon chain with a double bond. To give an example, the Lewis structure of Vinyl Chloride looks like this: |dw:1426298891192:dw| So you have that Chlorine bonded to a carbon that's double bonded to another carbon and some Hydrogen. Now I imagine you are thinking about this because you've heard of something called PVC, which is Polyvinyl Chloride. That looks slightly different, but it's just a polymer chain of a bunch of these vinyl chloride molecules that have all connected together to create a huge molecule in a chain reaction.
