I NEED MAJOR HELP FOR GEOMETRY!! WILL FAN+MEDAL!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the area of the image below: Figure ABCDE is shown. A is at 6, 0. B is at negative 4, 5. C is at 2, 5. D is at 2, 9. E is at 6, 9. 41 square units 44 square units 52 square units 56 square units

@tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Please do this: 1) Plot the points. 2) Connect the exterior points that define the extent of the figure. 3) Extend any exterior lines to go inside the figure until they encounter another line. Find the area of the square (probably) pieces so drawn.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure how to find the area though @tkhunny

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Extend BC until it hits EA. This defines a square and a triangle. You'll be done in a moment.

rishavraj (rishavraj):

@rosebud4612flvs see according to ur diagram id u extend BC till line segment AE then u will get a triangle and a square

rishavraj (rishavraj):

just find the area of the two and add them up to get the area of whole diagram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do I do after I extend it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait ignore that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on: area of triangle: 27.5 area of square: 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 43.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pretty sure thats wrong :/

rishavraj (rishavraj):

hold on ...give a min.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Do the triangle again. Count the squares better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! it would be 41

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the height is 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the area would be 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thank you @tkhunny and @rishavraj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have another question that I will ask on another thread. Can you guys help with that too please?

rishavraj (rishavraj):
