For a z-score of 1.94, what is the probability of finding a higher z-score?
do you have access to a graphing calculator or a z-table?
yes
@AlexBabich
that is a good mathematical statement, but in real life you have to pick one so if you have both then i recommend the calculator.
I got 2.7
Am i correct?
no no no!
I dont want to be rude...
but one of the most important concepts in probability is...
your probability can only be between 0 and 1
its like a percentage you see...
the least percent sure of something you can be is 0% and the most sure you can be of something is 100%
for example say you get probability of .234 your percent chance of this happening is 23.4%
0.02619 is what I got from the z table
ahh ok so the answer you gave me was the percentage, but the question asks for probability so you must leave it in the decimal format.
okay
this is not correct what you gave me. First is the table you have giving you the area to the right or to the left?
right
ok that is perfectly fine, you will get the area to the right of 1.94 and then take this result and subtract it from 1
so where does the table match up with 1.94?
the answer is correct
@Zarkon which one?
yours
.026189775534
Do i have to round?
that is up to your instructor
if you are using a table then use whatever digits it provides
Okay! Can you help me with other stats questions?
For a z-score of -1.65, what is the probability of finding a lower z-score?
0.04946 but since its negative the answer will be 0.04846. Right?
where did 0.04846 come from?
My apologies for discounting your answer. I was mistaken. Great Job :)
well since its negative i thought it would be 0.04846
the negative or positive doesnt matter so much. The most important thing is if its left or right. So if you find -1.65 in your table the number it matches up with is your final result.
you are correct!
negative values will have a probability less than .5 to the right. And positive values will have probability greater than .5 to the right
0.04846 is not correct
@Zarkon can you help me understand?
.049471450884
which is close to your first answer
I still don't know haw you got 0.04846
What happens to the negative
