https://media.studyisland.com/pics/49957pic5.png If x = 5 units, then what is the surface area of the cube shown above? 125 sq units 64 sq units 150 sq units 128 sq units

@W.W.G.D @PoetryPrincess @ElleCullen @cassie19933 @rational @nothingwasthesame @bogossan

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

To find surface area, you want to find the area of all the sides. How many sides are there in a cube?

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

6

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Right. Now you want to find the area of each of those sides. How are you going to do that? http://prntscr.com/6h2fg1

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Remember that the area formula of a square is \[Length \times Width\]

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

6*5=30 but 30 is not an option

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Since we're finding the area of a square, all the sides are the same, so we'll multiply by the same number.

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

30*2???

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

http://prntscr.com/6h2gy1

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

so basically 5*5

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Yep, and once you multiply that, there are 6 sides. So you can multiply the product of 5x5 by 6 or you can add the product of 5x5 6 times.

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

25*6??

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

You got it. What do you get when you multiply that together?

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

150

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Right. So which one's the answer?

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

150

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Yep, and that would be C.

OpenStudy (briellshaw):

ok thank you so much for the help

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Sure thing.
