Sentence Fragments Sentence fragments are incomplete sentences. All grammatically correct sentences require three elements. If one element is missing, the sentence is a fragment. The three necessary elements of a complete sentence are: A SUBJECT A PREDICATE A COMPLETE THOUGHT
Which fragment is made up of a complete predicate? a.) the first day of the semester b.) because of the slamming of the lockers and the shouts of students c.) with new books and schedules in hand d.) could not be heard above the voices in the hallway @happybird7
Well first what you want to do is look for the verb. Which sentences have a verb in it? @JaiMoney
i think its (B) am i correct Lil Ma? @happybird7
Well actually, if you look at the sentence, b.) because of the slamming of the lockers and the shouts of students even though you see "slamming" and "shouts" they are not being used as verbs at this time.
So therefore, the last sentence with verbs is (D) which gives the correct answer. If you look at the structure of the sentence in B, slamming and shouts are in the prepositional phrases, which they are acting as nouns. Hope I could help you today:) @JaiMoney

The glacier, a block of ice as long as a football field, moved slowly across the frozen tundra. Which phrase is an appositive in the sentence?
An appositive is a noun or noun phrase that renames another noun right beside it. The appositive can be a short or long combination of words. Look at these examples: The insect, a wingspanroach, is crawling across the kitchen table.
