Help FOIL!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+3) (x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got x^2+12x + 12 and it said I was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Multiply all the numbers in the first parenthesis to all the numbers in the 2nd parenthesis. x * x = ? x * 4 = ? 3 * x = ? 3 * 4 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x*x= X^2 x*4= 4x 3*x= 3x 3*4= 12

OpenStudy (igreen):

Correct, so we have: x^2 + 4x + 3x + 12 Now combine like terms, what's 4x + 3x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh. thats my problem with this one... I didnt add like terms... i multiplied that would be 7x Final answer would be x^2 + 7x +12 right?

OpenStudy (igreen):

Correct!

OpenStudy (igreen):

Looks like you got it! \(\Large\ddot\smile\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you ALWAYS add like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can we do 1 more to make sure I got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

( 3x+2 ) ( 2x - 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So first 3*2= 6 3*3= 9 2*2x= 4x 2*3= 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whoops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x*2= 6x 3x*3= 9x 2*2x= 4x 2*3= 6
