What is a major potential problem with DNA evidence? Having too much DNA Contamination from other sources Having to heat up DNA to keep it from degrading Having too many matches to DNA typing
what do you think it is
Having too much DNA is not a problem, since you only have to use a tiny portion of it to determine a match at the crime scene. The rest of the DNA can be stored or used if there is a problem with the lab test. Contamination from other sources is a huge problem, since it will negate the evidence at hand. For instance if the suspect left a fingerprint at the crime scene, but the investigator or collector contaminated the evidence with their own or another's DNA, then that evidence will become far less likely to be used against the suspect. Having to heat DNA up to keep it degrading is not an issue with today's technology. Also DNA degrades if you heat it up at a high temperature. Having too many matches for DNA typing can be an issue, however with today's technology and the fact that our own DNA is unique, it becomes negligible. so which do you think it is? Is this for a forensic's class? I hope that helps.
