1. A claim (2 points) provides an argument's opposing viewpoint interprets an argument's reasons states an argument's position explains an argument's evidence 2. A counterclaim is a reason someone (2 points) approves the evidence ignores an argument agrees with a claim disagrees with a position
3. What is a rebuttal? (2 points) A statement that diminishes the counterclaim because it is flawed A statement that supports the counterclaim because it is logical A statement that ignores the counterclaim because it is emotional A statement that repeats the counterclaim because it makes sense
Woah woah woah. Let's slow down here. What are your thoughts for the first question?
Well I just wanted to double check to see if my answers were correct however I forgot to put them in the passage. I believe A is C and 2 is D but I'm not sure what 3 is. I believe it's maybe A?
I agree with the first two, but I'm not sure about the third. I believe a rebuttal IS a counterclaim.
So it supports the counterclaim?
I think so
Rebuttal Claim and counterclaim are the basic foundations of an argument – you state your position and you acknowledge that there are other differing positions. Ideally, the logic and evidence you use to present your claim would sway someone to see things from your perspective. But sometimes people need more information. In those cases, you need to directly address the counterclaim to show that it is flawed or incorrect. This is called a rebuttal – Think of it as, “I understand what you are saying, but…”
Oh, so you were right then. Sorry. XD
