What is the area of the shaded region in the given circle in terms of pi and in simplest form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not sure how to set this up to solve

@skate-4-life270

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the area of the sector as fraction of the circle 60/360 (pi r^2) = find the area of the shaded triangle sides R third side 2R sin (60/2) this will give all you need by addition subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you i will try this!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you would do, 60/360= 0.17 3.14*6^2=113.04*0.17=19.2 did i get any of that right? haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i dont understand what to do from here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well that is the sector area take away the triangle in that sector it will leave the unshaded part which is what you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh ok i see... But i have 19.2...and take 60 away from that and you get a negative. i must be missing something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where do you get 60 ? draw a triangle radius 6 angle 60 and measure 1/2 base times height ===3(5) =15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well i know the base is 6...but i dont know hight...wow i am so sorry..to be this much trouble. i know how to do 1/2 base times height..but where are you getting 3 and five?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just drew it to be quick but you can work it out from the angle 60 I just want you to see the steps to work it out in fact you can possibly get the segment area straight from some book but this is how it will be worked
