Period is the time something takes to complete a full cycle: for example the amount of time it takes for you to run a lap around a field, or the elapsed time between two peaks of a wave. Frequency is the number of times a cycle can happen in a given amount of time. The standard unit for frequency is Hz which is just 1/s. That means it measures how many times a cycle happens per second. The two are related by the nice and simple T = 1/f or f = 1/T
