There is nothing fancy about Proposition 40—the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks and Coastal Protection Act of 2002.

EDITORIAL: Proposition 40

There is nothing fancy about Proposition 40—the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks and Coastal Protection Act of 2002.
Plain and simple it will improve the quality of life for Californians today and for future generations, and who can argue with that? It's about conserving natural resources (land, air, and water), acquiring and improving state and local parks, and preserving historical and cultural resources.
The proposition provides money to protect rivers, lakes and streams to improve water quality and ensure clean drinking water, and protect beaches and coastal areas threatened by pollution.
It also will improve air quality, preserve open space and farmland threatened by unplanned development; protect wildlife habitat; restore historical and cultural resources; repair and improve safety of state and neighborhood parks.
Giving children parks—safe places to play—helps keeps them out of mischief and away from gangs and violence.
Proposition 40 won't raise taxes; it requires existing tax money to be spent more efficiently and effectively.
Clean water, healthy air and safe parks benefit all Californians by continuing the quality of life we all enjoy now.
California's economy depends on preserving the state's quality of life.
Vote "yes" on 40.
