What was the purpose of passing the Neutrality Act of 1935? a) By invoking the act, the United States could abstain from participating directly in a foreign conflict. b) The Neutrality Act of 1935 allowed the United States to play a larger role in the League of Nations. c) Once the act was invoked, the United States was in a better position to find a diplomatic solution to a conflict. d) Congress could only provide arms for a state that was defending itself against an attack.

They were based on the widespread disillusionment with World War I in the early 1930s and the belief that the United States had been drawn into the war through loans and trade with the Allies.
