Graphing parabolas question:
I think you have to put it in standard form idk
awe i wish i knew how to do this to help):
ikr smh lol
No. This is in the perfect form. :P
There's no "k" so is it just 0? Lol
Lol. There is k. Look closely.
Is it (0,0)? Ugh lmao i cant see what u can
Lol. I have an extra air of eyes.
Melissa is that you in the picture?
Yes, it was a bridal shoot! Thats why i look good xD
OK if that's k what is a?! D:
Note down this somewhere. This will help you plot these in the future too. PS Congratulations on your wedding.
Im not married lol it was just a shoot
Lol. Sorry. I'll take my congratulations back.
Oh boy, I'm still a little fuzzy on a and k
So basically vertex in your problem is?
(-2,4) ?
Look, I can write it in two ways, -1(x-2)^2 + 4 OR 4 - 1(x-2)^2 It's just like writing 2 + 1 OR 1 + 2.
No. (2, 4) Because we change the sign of h.
I dont mean to bother, but you literally just added a 1 ? How did you know where to move the numbers
Lol, know what I'm not gonna ask why anymore it all breaks down to because math.
C'mon. This isn't any bother. :P Remember when your teacher said, "When there's nothing, there's 1". e.g. The number 2. It's is not just 2. It's 2/1. Or we can 2*1. So it multiplying and dividing with 1 at the same time.
When you move the 4, doesn't it have to turn -?
Nope ONLY the term with x. Basically what we do is: -1(x-2)^2 + 4. We take the things in the brackets out. i.e x-2 And set it equal to zero. x - 2 =0. And solve it for x like 5th graders do. x -2 = 0 x = 2.
Hahahahaha, oh okay. So this graph will be turned down?
What's your say? xD
a is negative here. Means sad face. Just like "n".
I think it is! Lol yeah so every time math gives me a problem like that I always move the first number and add a 1?
^Lol. I wouldn't say a yes to that. :O
woah wait, you said it can be 4-1(x-2) but a is positive in that example :o
oh boy
How is a positive? a is the term with parenthesis. And with parenthesis exists a -1.
but the standard form is y-a(x+h)+k?
oops, y=a(x+h)+k
Yes. And there's a squared over there.
i hope im not annoying
If you were, I would've left. ^_~
oh yeah there is a squared...but how does it affect a? 4-1 is still 3
Can you add 4 - x? No. Why no? Because 4 - 1x. Because they both are different terms. 4 is a number and -x is a variable. Same case here.
4 is a number. JUST a coefficient. Whereas -(x-2)^2 is term with x attached to it and squared as well. So you can't add or subtract 4 with this -1(x-2)^2.
Refer to the attachment.
Oh yes you're right!! @saifoo.khan
Woah how did you do that? @robtobey
I still dont get why it is down turned
i was taught if a<0 it's negative but gee
What I posted was from the Mathematica v9 program. The In[1] line, requests that the expression 4 - (x - 2)^2 be multiplied out, and then simplified. The plot was generated in 6.5 milliseconds on a mid 2010 Apple IMac computer.
Why do we just move numbers like nothing, how will you know?
can u help me?
