HELP ME FAST PLEASE :( Think of an activity that you enjoy or are interested in. Some examples are reading, swimming, or leveling up your gaming character. Use your activity to work through the following problems: Create a scenario that leads to an inequality of the form ax + b > c. You can use any of the inequality symbols (>, ≥, <, ≤) in your inequality. For this step, just write the word problem. Write the inequality and show all work to solve the inequality. Graph the solution to your inequality on a number line. Explain what your solution means in the context of the problem.

I like harry potter, and youtube for interests but it could be one im not interested in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just really need help i will fan anyone that helps and medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is my last assessment in math so please help

OpenStudy (phi):

***I like harry potter, and youtube *** how about (for example), I watch more than 3 youtube vidoes a day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty new on all this inequality stuff so it might take a bit longer for me to understand

OpenStudy (phi):

they want ax + b > c. I am thinking, make c minutes you watch youtube per day x could # of videos a could be the average length of a video, 5 minutes (we make that up) b is the amount of time it takes to long onto youtube, say 1 minute and c is say 30 minutes (you spend at least 30 minutes) so 5 x + 1 > 30 where x is the number of videos you watch,

OpenStudy (phi):

though, because you have to solve this, I would tweak then numbers, say 5 x + 5 > 30 (assume it takes 5 minutes to log in and find the videos you want to watch) the 5 will make it easier to solve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so what does the x do after the 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay im almost done noting all this into my document

OpenStudy (phi):

sorry, OS is not up to snuff today. make a note x is the number of videos you watch in a day each video is 5 minutes long it takes 5 minutes to log onto youtube and find the videos you are going to watch the amount of time watch videos is 5x + 5 you watch at least 30 minutes. we write that like this 5x + 5 > 30 minutes that is your relation they want you to "solve for x" (i.e. x > something)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i wrote everything down and im almost done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the last thing i need is to solve it out

OpenStudy (phi):

first add -5 to both sides, that means write -5 on both sides then simplify what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know how to simplify

OpenStudy (phi):

what do you have so far ? (before simplifying)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so like this? -5 + 5x + 5 > 30 + -5

OpenStudy (phi):

on the right side you have 30 + -5 any idea what that is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25

OpenStudy (phi):

ok. and on the left side you have a +5 and a -5 (we change change the order when adding things, right?, so we could write it +5 + -5 + 5x = 25 what do +5 and -5 add up to ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 right?

OpenStudy (phi):

you have 5 apples take away 5 apples, how many apples do you have ?

OpenStudy (phi):

+5+ -5 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok so you dont add a 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, so now you have 0+5x > 25 on the left adding 0 to anything (even 5x) gives back the anything examples: 0+1 =1, 0+2 =2, and 0 + 5x = 5x so 5x > 25

OpenStudy (phi):

now divide both sides by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide both sides of the 0+5x > 25?

OpenStudy (phi):

5x/5 >25/5 on the left 5/5 is 1 so 1x> 25/5 or simply x > 5 that means you watch more than 5 videos per day

OpenStudy (phi):

***divide both sides of the 0+5x > 25?*** yes, but notice that 0+5x simplifies to just 5x so divide both sides of 5x>25 by 5

OpenStudy (phi):

for this part Graph the solution to your inequality on a number line. a number line is a line, with the numbers marked off, 1,2,3, like on a ruler put an open circle at 5 and draw a line starting at the circle going to the right (toward the bigger numbers) put an arrow on it. |dw:1427580689774:dw|
