Simplify: (3a – 4b)(a + b)
@butterflydreamer
3a^2-4ab+3ab-4b^2
its better?
kinda, could you please walk me through the steps?
This looks like some FOILing c;
yep it is!
@Bananas1234 What you're going to have to do is something called FOIL. FOIL is First Outer Inner Last
It's basically where you multiply both of the first terms, then you multiply both of the outer terms, then you multiply the inner terms, then you multiply the last terms. Then you add/subtract any like terms
(3a – 4b)(a + b) 3a(a) + 3a(b) -4b(a) -4b(b)
(If weird black diamonds show up, just refresh your page...this happened to me so I'm just going to do that now xD).
3a(a) + 3a(b) -4b(a) -4b(b) So then just multiply the terms together, then add like terms
You should get 3a^2 + 3ab -4ba - 4b^2
@Ziferot It seems you did "Inner" in place of "Outer." While that doesn't really matter in the case of this problem, I'd suggest that you don't do that as in other cases, the order in which you do Inner and Outer can change the outcome of a problem.
@Bananas1234 If you need any more help, msg me :)
Why the plethora of people on this question? Haha, I believe it has already been answered, my dear friends :)
