how is the graph of y = -8x^2 - 2 different from the graph of y = 8x^2? a. it is shifted 2 units to the left. b. it is shifted 2 units to the right. c. it is shifted 2 units up. d. it is shifted 2 units down

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

is there supposed to be a - in front of 8x^2 in the second function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

okay so we have our two functions y=-8x^2-2 and y=-8x^2 notice the two functions would be the same if the -2 wasnt there in the first function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

just like in a linear equation the constant shows a vertical shift so -2 is a vertical shift of ____ units down or up??

Mehek (mehek14):

this should help:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (acxbox22):
