Help find the area in these two shapes? C:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

For any parallelogram, it is the height times the base. Works for squares, rectangles, and even the odd shaped ones. For trapezoids, it is slightly different because you take the average of both bases... but in a paralleolgram the bases are the same so their average is their length.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

For the rectangle, they give you the diagonal. So use that to find the height.

OpenStudy (igreen):

A = bh A = (17)(6)

OpenStudy (igreen):

For the 2nd one, use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the rectangle.

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(a^2 + b^2 = c^2\) The diagonal is the hypotenuse, and 18 is one of the legs. \(a^2 + 18^2 = 30^2\) Solve for 'a', then multiply it by 18 to get the area.

OpenStudy (igreen):

Can you take over from here? @CrazyCountryGirl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

#1 is 102? #2 is 432? @e.mccormick @iGreen

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yep! 17 * 6 = 102 18^2 = 324 30^2 = 900 900 - 324 = 576 Square root of 576 = 24 24 * 18 = 432
