Confused. :( Factor 8x^2 + 2x – 3. A. (2x + 3)(4x – 1) B. (8x + 1)(x – 3) C. The polynomial is prime. D. (2x – 1)(4x + 3)

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

Do you know how to factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um. I think. >_<

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

You think. Hmm... this one's a little different because of the \(8x^2\)

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

so do you know what to do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. You must find the factors of 8 and 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer: D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um. I am looking more for an explanation. @Jake_Litt ._.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

Well, actually, you don't have to... um just multiply each of the answers out and see which one gives you \(8x^2+2x-3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you use the FOIL method with D you will get the answer 8x^2 + 2x – 3. 8x^2 + 2x – 3 (2x – 1)(4x + 3) =8x^2 + 2x – 3 First find the factors for 2x and -3, then look check for the factors of 8 that will get -2x as an answer Is my explanation clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or what BloomLocke367 said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. I guess so. Thanks guys! :P

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

You're welcome :)
