Find the sum of the geometric sequence. three divided by two, three divided by eight, three divided by thirty two, three divided by one hundred and twenty eight, three divided by five hundred and twelve one divided by two hundred and fifty six one divided by sixteen one thousand twenty three divided by five hundred and twelve 341

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we got a formula for it?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and why write it out in words ... this is math after all , we have updated to numeric representations in the last couple of centuries.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I copied it from the webpage and didn't realize it copied over like that .

OpenStudy (amistre64):

for n terms, and a common ratio, r, ... begining at a_1 the sum of the terms of a geo seq is defined as: \[S=a_1\frac{1-r^n}{1-r}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so, how many terms we got? whats the first one? and what our common ratio?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really dont know

OpenStudy (amistre64):

umm ... how many terms is just a matter of counting the first one is just a matter of picking the first one the common ratio is about the trickiest one but its pretty simple nonetheless

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we know the first 2 terms the common ratio is such that a1 r = a2, therefore r = a2/a1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry.... 5 terms

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not sure about you, but the site flickered on my end ...
