How many isomers are there of C5H12?
The Three Isomers of Pentane, C5H12
How do you know?
Because i studied in chemistry i have the knowledge
Because i studied in chemistry i have the knowledge
Hahah, okay..
can you please explain?
try to write the structural formula in different ways you will easily figure out :)
First what is Isomers ? There are many organic compounds which have different chemical properties but same molecular formula as they have same different structural formula. For example, the molecular formula of ethanol (C2H5OH) and methoxymethane (CH3OCH3) is same that is C2H6O. Both compounds show different chemical and physical properties due to different structural formula with same molecular formula. Such type of compounds is referred as isomers and the phenomenon is called as isomerism. Thus, the isomerism can be defined as phenomenon by virtue of which two or more compounds having same molecular formula can be assigned different molecular structures and isomers are molecules with the same molecular formula, but different arrangements of atoms.
can you show me how please? :/
you just gotta draw the different permutations |dw:1429465113746:dw|
Isomer 1 is n-pentane, the straight chain normal structure for pentane. n-pentane - Isomer of Pentane Isomer 2 is 2-methylbutane, a branched chain with a carbon* atom joined onto three other carbon atoms. 2-methylbutane - Isomer of Pentane Isomer 3 is 2,2-dimethylpropane, a branched chain with the central carbon* atom joined onto four other carbon atoms. 2,2-dimethylpropane - Isomer of Pentane Note that for all the isomers, each carbon atom has four bonds (valency 4), and each hydrogen atom has one bond (valency 1). Valency is the combining power of an atom. You cannot change the number of bonds that each atom has, see the isomers of pentane
