The two-way table shows the number of people ages 20 and 50 who belong to Group A or B. What percent of people 50 years old belong to Group A? Express your answer to the nearest whole percent. % Age 20 Age 50 Group A 19 32 Group B 40 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need help figuring out how to set it up to get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so basically to find what your whole would be you can add all in group a so that would be lets say x amount of people then you find out how many people are 50 from x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 51 ppl in group A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah so then what percent is 32 of 51

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so % 32 --- = 100 50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then you can just cross multipy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 3200=50x 3200/50=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep its called a proportion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool,so my answer is 64%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep and that makes sense because half of 51 is about 25.5 and so that means 32 will be more than that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when I look at other people's replies they say %57

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe they want you to add up all 50 year olds and find the percent in thatv

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so thats would be 56 as total and then do the same thing just with different numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

% 32 ---- = ----- 100 56 56x=3200 3200/56= which is 57%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah so that might be right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its basically the same thing for each one though iif youre finding % then its the same equation with different numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the mean of Variable A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what type of chart is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like what do they want you to find

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"average"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right but the mean of what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right but the mean of what?
