Medal and Fan! Which of the following represents the set of integers greater than or equal to -5? {-5,-6,-7, ...} {-5, -4, -3, ...} {-5,-4,-3, ..., 3, 4, 5} {All positive numbers}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmate :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know its not A

OpenStudy (mathmate):

And for the same reason it's not..... The key here is to draw the number line!

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Put each of the options on the number line and bingo you go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but even on a number line B, C, and D are all greater than -5

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Almost true, but there is one (out of B, C and D) that is not, if you look clearly. This question is a little tricky, and needs a grammarian to sort this out. The question looks for ... \(the\) set of integers greater than or equal to -5 which means there is only one that satisfies the condition. If it said \(a\) set.... then any one would do. Now out of the two that satisfy the condition, which one \(completely\) satisfies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Again, use the number line! B is correct, please explain why not D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because -4,-3,-2,-1, and 0 are not positive numbers and are still larger than -5

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Yes, I think I know what you mean. However, a number line tells it all! |dw:1430483242764:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D yup thans again @mathmate you're the best :D

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You're welcome! :)
