Which group was harmed most by Mao's Great Leap Forward? A. Communist party leaders B. Farmers and poor workers C. Military leaders D. Scholars and educators
I believe it is D @Awolflover1
Last question of the day :P
D is Incorrect
OK, then is it B?
That was my in-between
I think your second guess, (B) is correct, and here's why. The Great Leap Forward was initiated by the Party leadership which followed Mao's orders, so they weren't directly affected. Neither was the military. Scholars and educators would later be harmed by the Cultural Revolution. That leaves (B). The reason was that the Great Leap was intended by Mao to push China from a nation of farmers to an industrial power. One of the things he had them do was create "backyard smelters", literally forges, where they could melt down things like farming tools, pots and pans, etc.. to make steel. Two problems: most farmers don't know a lot about blacksmithing or metal production. Secondly, you have all of these farmers suddenly doing something else other than farming. And because the Party expected results, no one was going to say "I have to plant my crops" when they needed to be smelting. This resulted in a lot of environmental damage along with mass starvation since a lot of manpower went towards industrialization without balancing it out against the actual growing and feeding of a population. So (B) makes a lot of sense since their way of life was severely hampered by the Great Leap.
I also think B)
