Well, candidates have been traveling around the country doing speeches for ages in every campaign and only McCain's camp picked a woman as his VP running mate (Sarah Palin) while Obama went with Joe Biden. Both Obama and McCain used a lot of television ad time to reach the masses. But the biggest change was the internet, something that both Obama and Mitt Romney would use to even greater effect in 2012. But in 2008, it was a huge thing -- "pundits" used things like gauging who had the most followers on social media to predict their popularity and so on. Four years earlier in 2004, it wasn't that big a deal. But by 2008, and with everyone and their dog connected to the internet thanks to social media, it was a huge weapon in the right hands. And we're seeing more of that today, especially as the next presidential election cycle begins ramping up. TL;DR: I'd go with (A).
