: (Book V) Kalypso's place is described as being so lovely that "even a god who found this place / would gaze, and feel his heart beat with delight." For Pete's sake, she lives in a cave that she's fixed up. However, it is described as though it is paradise itself. (Book VI) When Odysseus wakes, he finds the princess Nausikaa by the river. He asks her if she is a mortal or a divine person. Even given what he has been through, that seems excessive. (Book VII) Alkinoos's palace has gold doors and gold dogs guarding the palace. Probably this is an exaggeration of his extreme wealth. Also in Skheria, where he lives, the fruit grows on trees all year round. It may be very fertile, but I know of no place that can work that agricultural miracle.
