What is the function of the stomata? What is the difference between stroma and stoma?
Stomata (1 of 3) Function. Image caption: Carbon dioxide enters, while water and oxygen exit, through a leaf's stomata. Stomata control a tradeoff for the plant: they allow carbon dioxide in, but they also let precious water escape.
The stoma is the part on the leaf (usually located on the bottom) that allows for gas exchange (releasing O2 and taking in CO2). It has two guard cells that control its opening and closing. The stroma is the fluid inside of the chloroplast that contains the enzymes necessary for carbon fixation (the calvin cycle).
