Two equations are given below: a − 3b = 9 a = b − 3 What is the solution to the set of equations in the form (a, b)? (−9, −6) (−4, −3) (−6, −3) (−9, −7)

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

This tells you the a value so just use sustitution

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

\[( b-3)− 3b = 9\]

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what does B equal ?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

here you want to combine like terms to find the value of B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b = -9 ?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

hmmm lets work out the steps... \[(b−3)−3b=9 \] now we want to combine like terms starting with b \[-2b=12\] then just divide by -2 and you get b=-6 then just susbstitute that into equation 2 \[a = (-6) − 3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a = -9

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be A ?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

welcome :)
