OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

I know of Futurama. Each time you send a message, you see this "Hermes would be proud"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH YEAH!!! Thats so true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pro someone who made the pm system or made thia site

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Hes the Greek messenger God.. You're sending a message.. Hermes would be proud. Haa get it? @Isaiah.Feynman

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Hermes was the Greek god of commerce, son of Zeus and Maia. Quick acting and cunning, he was able to move swiftly between the world of man and the world of gods, acting as a messenger of the gods and the link between mortals and the Olympians.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Yea some people take it as offensive and others dont.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In programming there is an old tradition of the Easter Egg. These were hidden extras they put in. It was a way for a programmer to have fun. Well, the Hermes thing falls into a similar concept of being entertaining. Programmers like fun things in their programs.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

@jagr2713 don't forget to cite your sources :P http://www.greekmythology.com/Olympians/Hermes/hermes.html

OpenStudy (causticsyndicalist):

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

@jagr2713 I get it now.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Lol

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Perhaps they should have used Mercury. Then people would have known it was for when your messages were Roman here and there. As it is, you have to be a computer Greek to get the joke.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@compassionate Right?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

No, left.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Here I set up a triple pun and Compassionte left it...

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

LOL x'D

OpenStudy (greencat):

@e.mccormick I only found two puns: Roman=Roaming Greek=Geek Bonus: "Here I set up a triple pun and Compassionte [sic] left it..." LEFT @Compassionate literally left it...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@GreenCat The mercury bit itself might get by most... have to use some quick silver to catch it.

OpenStudy (greencat):

Sorry; Mercury is too quick for me.

OpenStudy (greencat):

Unless the point is that Mercury is Roman; then, I already got that. @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Look up other names for mercury, the element.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Isn't mercury literally quicksilver? OH 'quick' silver!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

And another way to pun the need for it to be called mercury.

OpenStudy (greencat):

So the point is that Mercury would be quicker than Hermes? I do know that the element is also known as Quicksilver but I thought that was an added pun.
