What process accounts for species diversity?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species_diversity This should help, don't have to read it all.

Attribute it to 'phylogenesis' or speciation (going from 1 species to 2) natural selection or Evolution. Take a look at some videos that discuss: biodiversity speciation extinction Charles Darwin & evolution I've also included a picture illustrating the speciation and extinction of dinosaurs common to the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods - remember the Triassic Period is stated of have lasted over 200 million years. I've also included a mammal tree too because it was hard to find an appropriate picture to illustrate this 'process'. Continue discussion.
