@dan815

Let's start by forming algebraic equations. So let the income of R to S be 5x and 7x. Let expenditure of R to S be 3x and 5x. Note here that expenditure means SPENDING. They've told us that both R and S saved 80 each. Therefore, if we subtract their monthly spending from their monthly income we will get 80. SO for R... 5x (total monthly pocket money) - 3x (monthly amount spent ) = 2x (monthly amount saved) We know that R saved 80 right? Therefore 2x = 80 Solve for x

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

40?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yep :) So we know x = 40. Now at the beginning we said Ravi = 5x and Sanjeev = 7x. Plug "x = 40" into both of the equations above to solve for each person's monthly pocket money :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

We know x= 40 so then, Ravi = 5x Ravi = 5*40 = 200 Sanjeev = 7x Sanjeev = 7* 40 = 280 So you're correct :)! Good job!

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Can you help me in trigonometry also? And thanks :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

i can try xD No prrobleem

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Alright xD http://prntscr.com/73wsk7

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

hmm.. thinking

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Do we convert cot54 to tan36?

OpenStudy (dan815):

cot = 1/tan

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

I know that @dan815

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

Start by using the trig rule: cos ( 90 - theta) = sin theta. So let's change cos 64 to get something in terms of sin :) (so what does 90 - 64 = ? , 90 - 64 = 26) Therefore , cos (90 - theta) = sin theta cos 64 can be written as: cos ( 90 - 26 ) = sin 26 Now we know cos^2 (26) + sin 26 cos 64 + tan 36 / cot54 = cos ^2 (26) + sin^2 ( 26 ) + tan36 /cot54 Now, use the trig identity: cos^2 x + sin^2 x = 1 Therefore, cos^2 (26) + sin 26 cos 64 + tan 36/ cot 54 = cos ^2 (26) + sin^2 ( 26 ) + tan36 / cot54 = 1 + tan 36 /cot54 Now , focus on the "tan36 / cot 54 part" Note: tan ( 90 - theta) = cot theta. Therefore cot theta = tan ( 90 - theta) in our case, theta = 54 cot 54 = tan ( 90 - 54) cot 54 = tan 36 SO noooooow, cos^2 (26) + sin 26 cos 64 + tan 36/ cot 54 = cos ^2 (26) + sin^2 ( 26 ) + tan36 / cot54 = 1 + tan 36 /cot54 = 1 + tan 36 / tan36 = 1 + 1 = 2

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

THANKS!!!!!!!

LOL please take the time to read it and solve it for yourself ^_^ To recap. Use the following rules and identities: |dw:1431325744014:dw|
