What is the length of line segment QR?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9.12 cm 10.36 cm 11.34 cm 12.61 cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's just go with the law of sines for this one. Do you know how to apply the law of sines?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, I didn't understand any of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Law of sines basically says that the sin of an angle divided by the length of its opposite will be equal to any other sin of an angle over its opposite side. In this equation we would get the equation:\[\frac{ 2 }{ \sin10 }=\frac{ x }{ \sin80 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now we just have to get x alone.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're just gonna want to plug it into a calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So just find a good online calculator (I use http://web2.0calc.com/) and then plug in\[\frac{ 2 }{ \sin10 }*\sin80\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 11.34

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the answer. And btw, what grade are you in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm great at algebra but this geometry class I take is really confusing, especially since I do online school I don't get much help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Really? Cause that was an 11th grade way of solving it. You shouldn't be doing the law of sines until trig.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I am taking a high school course, there are 11th graders in my class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We just started Trig

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you skipping graedes? Cause you should know about sin by now. Have you learned sohcahtoa?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think I am skipping any grades, and no, I don't know what that is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should have learned sohcahtoa back in algebra or geometry. And your class should not be doing law of sines problems if you don't have any idea what sin is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We just started Trig today so the lesson was on Tangents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you want to get a good lesson on sin, cos, tan, and the others just check out khanacademy. And ask me whenever you need, I'll help as much as I can :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, Thankyou ^^; You've been a big help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha no problem :) I'm taking trig this year so I know a fair amount about it.
