Which calculation can be used to find the value of y in the equation y3 = 27?

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

is that y^3 or 3y (yx3)

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

if it is three y it is simple you divide both sides by three

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

if it is cubed (^3) we just find the cube root of 27

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

thankfully for both of us 3 is a very eazy number

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

easy

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

so 3 x 3 = 9 9x3 = 27

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

meaning that the answer is three

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

i showed it the oppisite how you are supposed to do it, in reality you are supposed to find the cube root of 27. So it would go like cub rt(27)

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

graphing calculators can solve these by putting in 27^(1/3) :P

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

anyways enough of me rambling on :), the answer is 3

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

and for calulations it would be cubing 27

OpenStudy (jennyrlz):

unless it was 3y then it would be dividing both sides by 3
