Hey i am sorry this is my second question but ive only been on here for three weeks. I have been hearing that direct answers are not okay. I usually ask them what they think the answer is, then if their guess is right i tell them it is correct, and sometimes i tell them why its right. But if i dont ask them their guess, i usually eliminate choices, or give them hints, then i answer it, but i tell them why its right or give them a website to read about it. I just want to know if that is okay.
I believe you are supposed to give them the fishing rod, not the fish. Teach them how to get to the correct answer before giving them the answer.
You can give the answer as long as you explain it enough for the person asking to understand
^ no, usually people will look at the final answer. And you just wasted all your time. :p
No, that is not okay.. If you are saying you are "giving the answer with an explanation", then no it's not correct.
Doing that will let people guess untill the answer is right
Yes, like @TheSmartOne pointed out, a lot of users just want the answer..so if you give it with whatever complex explanation, they can just pick the answer right up and move on.
That's why you have to guide them, don't do all the work for them, make them do at least some of it.
Saw it on another post that's why I said that but nvm I saw this http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/552cfb7de4b07e661d0f097d "any explanation which does not involve the askers participation, but does all the work/thinking for them ... is nothing more than a direct answer. if doesnt matter if your explanation is 3 pages long and the most indepth textual treatise on the planet; without the askers participation all they do is say ok, take the final results, and move on to ask the same exact question all over again."
Okay. ill try my best not to just give out the final answer. I remember I gave someone a link to a picture that would help them get the answer, but they told me they wanted me to put it in words, even though i pretty much gave them a picture that explains? (i didnt answer them back though??)
When you eliminate a choice don't eliminate more than on choice and give a reason why you think that should be eliminated.
The whole point is not to get medals but to make sure the asker learns.
@Thesmarterone We already know.
I am just kidding i don't do that
Make sure The Asker knows aka me jk
@TobleroneJesus I hope you understand why the main goal is for the asker to learn.

Basically, you will want the asker to actually participate in answering his/her own question.
\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @TobleroneJesus Hey i am sorry this is my second question but ive only been on here for three weeks. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Don't be afraid to ask questions. :)
