It costs $100 to join a fitness center plus monthly fee. You spent $700 last year at the fitness center. How much was the monthly fee? Write and solve an equation to determine the monthly fee. Can someone help write thee inequality formula I am lost! Thanks

OpenStudy (agl202):

we have a fixed cost of $100 (initiation fee) and a variable cost of $25 per month. If n = the number of months, then you can express the cost of membership for n months as: Fixed cost plus variable cost, or... $100+n($25) To find the cost of membership for 1 year, you first must convert 1 year into 12 months. Why, because the variable (n) in the above expression stands for the number of months, not years. So, let n = 12 (months) and substitute 12 for n in the expression. The cost of membership for 1 year (12 months) is: $100+12($25)= $100 + $300 = $400

Anytime!!! :D

Question How does the $400 add up to $700 dollars spent last year! Still confused

OpenStudy (agl202):

Sorry did my work wrong here.... So 12x + 100 = 700 12x = 600 x = 50 so the monthly fee is $50

OpenStudy (agl202):

Thx for catching my mistake...
