Any tips for double checking in exams? Any got any methods/techniques for how to 'check your answers'?
I like to put a triangle next to the questions I struggle on, and even if I complete them, i still come back to take a second look just in case.
In terms of maths, I normally go over all of the questions arithmetically as if I haven't done the question, and remember when you do this don't look at your original working at this can trick your mind into thinking some wrong statements might be right.
Thank you :) I just feel my checking isnt methodical as i normally just do the question in my head as I realise I haven't got enough time to go and redo every question
We tend to make the same mistakes when doing exactly the same problem more than once. So when checking your own answers, try to do it in a different way, whenever possible. Some hints and tips for writing exams: - when adding a column of numbers, start from the bottom when checking. - when you have solved a system of equations, check by substituting the solution into the original equation (in fact, checking should have been done as part of your solution process). - when solving word problems, put the solution (numbers) into the word problem and see if it meets all the requirements. Same with geometry problems. - For multiple choice problems, check all the options. Do not settle on the first one that you think is correct. Find an objection to each one you reject. For math multiple choice, do not look at the answers and guess. Work out the problem and match the correct answer. - do not forget units in the answers. If no units are given for a linear measurement, put for example 5.4 u, for areas, 2.5 \(u^2\) etc. Know your units conversion tables (km, hm, dam, m, dm, cm, mm, ...) - most important of all, RE-READ the questions to make sure you understand perfectly what is being asked.
