What is the value of x? Round your answer to the nearest tenth if necessary. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1577500_1578000/1577937/1/0b5c127cb718155694b24016e90684a968eb20be/MS_IMC-150120-130105.jpg @liamschumm

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

So, we use the pythagorean theorem again.

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

20^2 = 14^2 + x^2.

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

See, in a^2 + b^2 = c^2, 20 is c, since it is opposite the 90 degree angle, and a and b are 14 and x, respectively.

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

Do you know how to solve 20^2 = 14^2 + x^2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In this problem you would use the phtagreom therome (idk how to spell it srry) but because you got the hyptonuse you do it backwards so you would do \[20^{2}-14^{2}=204 \] \[\sqrt{204} = 14.28 or 14.30\] does that make sense?

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

Thank you! Have a nice day!

OpenStudy (itsbribro):
