The point (–5,–3) is translated right 8, down 6. What are the coordinates of the translated point? A. (–13, –9) B. (–13, 3) C. (3, –9) D. (3, 3) @mathmate @jakashaka123

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@PizzaLover123 I would be glad to comment on it if you show your work or explain how you would get the answer.

I dont know what grid to use @mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

You don't need to choose a grid. If you work graphically, any grid will do. If you work by the transformation: \(t_{8,-6}:(x,y) -> (x+8,y-6)\) then you don't need a grid. Have you read my example from a previous post on doing a transformation algebraically (similar to above)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 8 to x and do y-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5 +8 is a positive not negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 3, what =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3-6 = ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that would be adding =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtraction a positive from a negative is still subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

adding positive to a negative is adding =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

unless adding negative to positive you get subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it 100% mastered :) Thanks could you medal mathmate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

of coarse i can =)
