will fan+medal!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!! How did Darwin and Lamarck differ in their thinking about change in species? A.Darwin thought that organisms could induce their own changes, while Lamarck thought that change could only be induced by an organism’s environment. B.Darwin thought that change could occur in individual organisms, while Lamarck thought that change could only occur across generations.
C.Darwin thought that genes controlled a species’ ability to survive, while Lamarck thought that genes were only one part of a species’ ability to adapt.
D.Darwin thought that organisms had to struggle to survive, while Lamarck thought that organisms could make adjustments when conditions became difficult.
Well, what do you think it is?
Are you still there?
I'm here...i think it is C
Close, but the correct answer is D. Neither Lamarck nor Darwin knew anything about genes as the units of inheritance that were sequences of DNA. Genetics is a 20th century discovery. Darwin realized populations evolved due to differential reproductive success. Individuals competed for the same limited resources in the struggle to survive and reproduce. Burbank used artificial selection where he selected the plants producing tubers with qualities he sought to breed and produce another generation. Like natural selection there is a differential rate of reproductive success between individuals based on their inherited traits. In natural selection the total environment provides the selective pressures on competing members of the species. In artificial selection human breeders provide the selective pressure based on a limited aspect of what the breeder needs but must in turn provide protection against all other selective pressures from living in the wild to ensure the purebred domestic plant survives
Does that help?
thanks so much!!
It was my pleasure :D
Have any more questions?
