OpenStudy (melissa_something):

What is a leading coefficient?

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

I looked it up and it says it's the first term. But in 5x^2+6x^3 It says 6 is the lc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The leading coefficient isn't always with the first term as written, but the first term when you put them in order of highest to lowest exponent. In other words, it is the coefficient of the variable with the highest power. For example, in x^3-3x^4+x^2, the highest power is four, and the coefficient of the variable is 3. That is the leading coefficient
