http://www.virtualnerd.com/pre-algebra/ratios-proportions/similar-figures-indirect-measurement/similar-figures/find-scale-factor-similar-figures That link should help. It is an example the shows how to work through it.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Wait okay so In this I would take 20/7 right?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

I got 2.85714286

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really don't know, that's why I recommended the site because it has helped me through a lot of math troubles

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

@死は最高です

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, ill help

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Thanks man

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is 20:7

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

It is?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Wait how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one sec :P i did something wrong

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Okaii

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

You there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as far as i can tell, it looks like you are correct with your answer

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

But I can't type that answer in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is 7*2.85714286 ?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 20/2.85714286 = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that has to be your scale factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it give you options for answers?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

6.999...

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

And no it doesn't

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Would it be 6.9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, gimme a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it cant be 6.9 -_-

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Hmm okay then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in order to find the scale factor you need to take 20, and divide it by 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that should immediatly be your scale factor

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Yeah I did and I got 2.85714286

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah, same here :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gimme a sec, ill ask around, and do some research

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Okaii

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, its .35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20*.35 = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 7/.35 = 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you had to divide 7 by 20, instead of 20 by 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically flip the pictures around

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

So I would type in .35?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah ^_^

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Thanks man ^-^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you were looking for what you have to multiply 20 by to get 7, not what you have to divide it by. so thats where i went wrong -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad i could help ^_^

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

I have two more could you help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep ^_^

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Thanks!
