Can someone help me with an Algebra 1 question for a medal?

Find the quotient of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to type that on here, sorry.

OpenStudy (hysusonic):

do you know what happens when you divide exponents?

OpenStudy (hysusonic):

\[\frac{ 4x^3y+12x^2y^3-20xy }{ 4xy }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, sorry I don't. I went over the lesson twice and I still don't understand it.

OpenStudy (hysusonic):

okay so whenever you have something where the numerator has variables AND exponents, you usually have a denominator with the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that it?

OpenStudy (hysusonic):

no, whenever you have that type of problem where you divide numbers that have exponents, you subtract the numerator exponents by the denominator exponents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, sorry for the delay. Give me a minute.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay. I think I can finish it from here. Thanks for the info. Here's a medal.

OpenStudy (hysusonic):

are you sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I can finish it from here. Thanks

OpenStudy (hysusonic):
