Fawn ran a 5-kilometer race in 47 minutes. To the nearest hundredth, what was her speed in meters per second? 0.18 1.77 106.38 0.11

I will fan and medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give me a moment to draw out a diagram for you of how I solve these.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The labels will cross multiply and cancel each other out. So just multiply straight across for the values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That got partially messed up, it would be the value with the m/sec as the unit, not _meters over _ seconds

Anytime I have a conversion equation or something like that this is the type of equation I set up for myself. It takes a moment to get it set up and get everything in the right spot, but then it's just simple math after that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the equation you put together makes sense..alot of sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And it's easy to do with any problem. When I started this for you I just drew a straight line, and then started erasing after each set and slid in a multiply sign. I wish I could remember what teacher taught me this trick, because it's awesome.

maybe i am not doing it right? i dont think i am doing it right i dont get the answer choices @pyschotink

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't actually try to solve it yet...Let me try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do get one of your answers. What are you coming up with? Maybe I can see where you went wrong. Remember I said my equation was a little messed up, so I might have confused you some.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i get 106.45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe i multiply wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take your values across so 5*1*1 and divide that by the total of 1000 * 60 * 47 I got 1.7730496453900......for a bunch more numbers. It could be an issue of how you put it in the calculator. If I don't do 5/(1000*60*47) I do get different numbers depending on the calculator and how it processes things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh it is the way i put it in the calculator

ty!
